Section 2-6 : Quadratic Equations - Part II

For problems 1 – 3 complete the square.

  1. \({x^2} + 8x\) Solution
  2. \({u^2} - 11u\) Solution
  3. \(2{z^2} - 12z\) Solution

For problems 4 – 8 solve the quadratic equation by completing the square.

  1. \({t^2} - 10t + 34 = 0\) Solution
  2. \({v^2} + 8v - 9 = 0\) Solution
  3. \({x^2} + 9x + 16 = 0\) Solution
  4. \(4{u^2} - 8u + 5 = 0\) Solution
  5. \(2{x^2} + 5x + 3 = 0\) Solution

For problems 9 – 13 use the quadratic formula to solve the quadratic equation.

  1. \({x^2} - 6x + 4 = 0\) Solution
  2. \(9{w^2} - 6w = 101\) Solution
  3. \(8{u^2} + 5u + 70 = 5 - 7u\) Solution
  4. \(169 - 20t + 4{t^2} = 0\) Solution
  5. \(2{z^2} + z - 72 = {z^2} - 2z + 58\) Solution
