11. Determine all the roots of \(R\left( y \right) = 12{y^2} + 11y - 5\).

Set the function equal to zero and factor the left side.

\[12{y^2} + 11y - 5 = \left( {4y + 5} \right)\left( {3y - 1} \right) = 0\]

After factoring we see that the two roots of this function are,

\[y = - \frac{5}{4},\,\,\,\,\,\,y = \frac{1}{3}\]
